How External Triggers and Internal Imbalances Combine to Cause Acne Breakouts

Acne isn’t just a skin condition, but rather a reflection of your gut, mental, or metabolic health. For example, when your gut microbiome is out of balance, it can trigger inflammation, which affects your hormone production and therefore causes breakouts or pimples. Epigenetics, or how your environment influences your genes, can activate acne genes when stress, diet, and toxins come into play.

External triggers such as an imbalanced skin microbiome, irregular skin cell turnover, excess oil, and harsh skincare products can further damage the skin barrier and make acne worse.

To effectively treat acne, it’s essential to address both internal and external factors at the same time. This means rebalancing your gut and hormones, managing stress, ensuring proper hydration, getting enough sleep, exercising, and choosing skincare products that support your skin’s natural balance instead of disrupting it.

How Toxins Contribute to Acne Breakouts:

Toxins, whether from the environment or the body, contribute to acne by triggering biological processes that lead to inflammation and oxidative stress. When pollutants such as particles, heavy metals, or chemicals in skin care products enter the body, they can penetrate the skin and into the bloodstream. The immune system then releases pro-inflammatory molecules called cytokines, which promote inflammation, not just in the skin, but throughout the body. In addition, toxins lead to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), unstable molecules that can damage cells when present in excess—this is called oxidative stress.

This combination of inflammation and overproduction of ROS causes the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum (oil). The sebum, which normally helps protect the skin, becomes excessive and mixes with dead skin cells, clogging the pores. Clogged pores create an environment for acne-causing bacteria, such as Cutibacterium acnes, to thrive, leading to breakouts. The connection between ROS, inflammation, and excess sebum production shows how toxins can disrupt skin health and cause acne.

How does Skin Diligent Acne Kit effectively treat acne from the inside and out?

The Skin Diligent Acne Kit represents the next generation of acne solutions, using an epigenetic approach to target acne. This new kit replaces our previous Acne-Prone Kit and offers a more advanced dual approach to treating your skin. By targeting both the root causes of acne and the skin itself, the kit avoids the negative side effects often associated with aggressive medical acne treatments.

The Acne Kit includes two treatment steps and a dietary supplement, with cutting-edge ingredients designed to better treat spots and blemishes. At the heart of the kit is our second-generation Regulation Serum, a revolutionary epigenetic formulation that de-stresses skin cells and improves their ability to reproduce into healthy cells. Since acne is an inflammatory condition, reducing inflammation is also a key component of this powerful serum.

Step 1: Triple Action Cleanser, Skin Care

Most cleansers are over 90% water and can contain harsh ingredients that can damage your skin barrier. A damaged skin barrier can promote inflammation and worsen acne. In contrast, Skin Diligent Triple Action Cleanser is gentle, pH balanced, and won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. It contains 86% glycerin, plus probiotics and a plant resin, Protium heptaphyllum, to gently cleanse, soothe, and rebalance your skin’s microbiome.

Step 2: Serum Regulation, skin care

Our Regulation Serum’s breakthrough epigenetic formula addresses nearly every surface factor that contributes to acne. It regulates sebum production, targets blackheads and pimples, reduces redness, and improves overall skin health. The serum also helps prevent deep scarring, one of the trickiest aspects of skin care, as scars are notoriously difficult to treat once they’ve formed.

Fading hyperpigmentation is another big challenge, but this serum visibly fades dark spots, some even disappearing completely. It’s a powerful solution for acne and post-acne marks, making it an essential tool for better-looking skin and a more even skin tone.

A gentler alternative to harsh acne treatments, Regulation Serum is suitable for regular use or as an “SOS” treatment for occasional breakouts. Its multifunctional formula strengthens the skin barrier while tackling blemishes. Additionally, it lightens acne marks, UV sun spots and other types of hyperpigmentation by reducing cellular stress and inhibiting enzymes responsible for melanin production.

Step 3: Skin & Stress food supplement

Stress is a major factor that affects both teens and adults, and studies have shown a clear link between stress and acne. When you’re stressed, your body produces higher levels of cortisol, a hormone that can increase oil production in the skin, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. Stress management is crucial, and supplements that support skin health and help regulate stress can be effective in reducing acne.

The Skin & Stress food supplement replenishes the micronutrients lost due to excessive stress and which people suffering from acne lack. Natural vitamin C comes from the Acerola cherry. Combined with zinc and magnesium, it contributes to the normal formation of collagen, the normal functioning of the skin, the immune system and the nervous system. Vitamin C, copper and vitamin E have an antioxidant action. Finally, vitamin B6 helps regulate hormonal activity.

By combining Skin & Stress with these two skincare steps, you can effectively target acne and its root causes with a dual approach. Externally, our Regulation Serum targets spots, blemishes, hyperpigmentation, and prevents scarring, while our Triple Action Cleanser cleanses, adds probiotics, and rebalances the skin’s microbiome. Internally, our Skin & Stress supplement allows you to heal your skin from the inside out by targeting micronutrient imbalances and stress.

How to effectively target acne and premature skin aging to achieve clear, healthy skin?

When dealing with multiple skin concerns, such as acne breakouts and premature aging, a holistic approach can yield better results. Here's the regimen we recommend:

Food supplement:

- If your acne is stress-related, opt for Skin & Stress .
- For acne related to hormonal imbalance or intestinal dysbiosis (which manifests itself through digestive disorders or bloating), opt for Skin & Biotics , which contains probiotics, prebiotics, as well as essential vitamins and minerals.

For Skin & Biotics, take 2 capsules with water and food to avoid any gastric discomfort. Avoid tea or coffee 30/40 minutes before/after, as caffeine can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals. The capsules are gastro-resistant for better absorption.

Skin care:

Use the following skincare products twice a day, morning and evening. If you have heavy makeup, start by using a gentle makeup remover.

Morning care:

1. Triple Action Cleanser: Apply a small amount to damp face, massage gently for 30 seconds, then rinse and pat dry.
